Friday Night Fire Episode II – Attack of the Grolocks

If you were there last Friday, thanks for coming!  We noticed a jump in attendance–around 100 people were there.  If you enjoyed it, tell a friend to come to our next show on February 20.  Our theme was Get Ready.

Here’s the breakdown of our November show…

  • Music by our “house band” Dear Corban
  • Kurt Gund and Lanyard Adams hosting
  • Kurt and Lanyard in The Friday Night Fire Public Service Announcements
  • A classic gospel song as performed by Julie Guthrie
  • A classic infomercial from Kurt’s collection: Grace Ducky’s Psychic Hotline
  • A visit from bad-luck-magnet Rev. M.B. Manfield Dent
  • Instructions on Disaster Preparedness (hint: it involves Techno-Vikings and Indonesian food)
  • The Parable of the Bridegroom Concert: a story by Gary Rush

And if that sounds like fun, you can come to the next Friday Night Fire on February 20, 2009!

As always, we have posted this show’s videos below.  Check them out and enjoy!

Grace Ducky’s Psychic Hotline

A classic 90’s infomercial from Kurt’s collection.  A terribly bad way to get ready for the future.

What time is it?

Posted November 10, 2008

It’s getting you to advertise for us time!

Yes, indeed. We have the new invitation to Friday Night Fire, November 21, 2008!  Why only a single flyer this month.  Mostly it’s a timing issue.  We’ve only had a month since the last show, so there has only been time to design a single ad this month…  But the trade-off is that this month, you can play with it!

Download the flyer, print up some copies and distribute them far and wide!

————————-

Flyer #3 – “Actually a Board Game” – 8.5″x11″

medium-quality PNG (873 KB) | high-quality PNG (6.02 MB)

This invitation is a working (but kind of lame) board game. You can actually play it if you feel like punishing yourself.  Original photographs: “Stop Sign” by Librarian In Black, “Old Gaol tower stairs” by moonflowerdragon, “Rubber Ducky, You’re the One … of Many” by Steve Wampler, “Fire Breating” by Carlo Nicora, “child’s wonderland” by godsmoon, “BREAKFAST” by malias, “Data portability escalator 4” by ronin691, “vortex 4” by fatcontroller, “Inside my shirt pocket” by GregPC, and “Tree Pot” by Katie@!.

This ad is made available under a Creative Commons License (by-nc 2.5 Canada), which means that you have our express permission to download it, modify it, print it, share it with your friends, etc.  You could even change it into an invitation for your own event!

But you must follow these two conditions…  You must make it clear where you got the original work (a mention of itsthefire.com will work fine) and you can’t try to make any money off whatever you make.  You should also remember to credit the original photographers who also generously licensed their work to us.

October Wrap-Up

Posted October 21, 2008

A Fine First Fire for Folks and Friends

Edit: Remembering Billy Stubbs has been temporarily removed due to an unforeseen issue.  It will return as soon as possible.

Our theme was Losing Everything, but we managed to keep from losing our way.  Thank you to all the people who turned up for the show.  We hope you enjoyed it; we hope it made you think; we hope we didn’t scare you off by being too weird.

What did you miss if you weren’t there Friday?  Highlights included:

  • Music by Dear Corban
  • The hosting prowess of Kurt Gund and Lanyard Adams
  • The videographic tale of Billy Stubbs
  • An inspiring song by Julie Guthrie
  • The true story of Lal Bihari
  • The documentary Luging Everything
  • A visit from the long-suffering Rev. M.B. Manfield Dent
  • Instructions on How Not to Lose Things
  • A message by Pastor Gary Rush on why losing everything is actually a good thing

But fear not! If you couldn’t make it to October’s Friday Night Fire, there is another opportunity for you on November 21!

And if you want a taste of the Fire to show your friends or see for yourself, look no further.  Enjoy the videos below, and we’ll see you at next month’s show.

————————-

Luging Everything

The big hit of the evening was this mockumentary about two brothers careening uncontrollably downhill.

Remembering Billy Stubbs is not currently licensed for that purpose (but you can still download it).
